Amalie Auguste of Bavaria

Amalie Auguste Princess of Bavaria ( born November 13, 1801 in Munich, † November 8, 1877 in Dresden) was Queen of Saxony.

Life

Amalie was the fourth child of the second marriage of King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria with Karoline Friederike Wilhelmine of Baden. She herself was the twin sister of Queen Elizabeth of Prussia.

On November 21, 1822 married Princess Amalie Auguste in Dresden later King John I of Saxony, son of Prince Maximilian of Saxony and Princess Caroline of Bourbon- Parma. The marriage produced nine children were born:

  • King Albert I of Saxony (1828-1902) ∞ 1853 Princess Carola of Vasa
  • Elisabeth of Saxony (1830-1912) ∞ 1850 Prince Ferdinand of Savoy, Duke of Genoa
  • Ernst Friedrich August of Saxony (1831-1847)
  • King George I of Saxony (1832-1904) ∞ 1859 Infanta Maria Anna of Portugal
  • Maria Sidonia of Saxony (1834-1862)
  • Anna of Saxony (1836-1859) ∞ 1856 Grand Duke Ferdinand IV of Tuscany
  • Margaret of Saxony (1840-1858) ∞ 1856 Archduke Karl Ludwig of Austria
  • Marie Sophie of Saxony (1845-1867) ∞ 1865 Duke Carl Theodor in Bavaria

Since 1850, she was the chief head of the Women's Association in Dresden, which was founded on her sister, Queen Marie of Saxony, declined.
