Amayenge

Amayenge is a pop group in Zambia, which is attributable to the Zambian Guitar Zupfstil Kalindula and is rooted in the traditional music of the call - and-answer style.

The group began in Choma with Kris Chali 1978. At that time she was still called Cross Bones. As Chali died on 30 May 2003, the group took on Fraser Chilembo as spiritus rector. Amayenge achieved great attention far beyond Zambia addition.

One critic wrote: " Amayenge dominated the Zambian music scene for almost 25 years by meeting the tastes of all 73 tribes and the nation gave the feeling to swing with her. She is without a doubt the most skilled and most successful group in the Zambian music history. "

Kalindula is a Zambian style of music that was once on so-called banjos, self-built guitars, a bass guitar with four strings, the mbabadoni or kalindula, ngomas, the drum chisekele ( rattles, gourds ), and metal bells played. Today, the banjos are replaced by guitars and drums by a drum.

Fraser Chilembo is manager of the group.
