Ambassador of Conscience Award

Ambassador of Conscience (English: Ambassador of Conscience ) is the name of the highest award that gives the human rights organization Amnesty International.

The undoped prize is awarded annually since 2003 to individuals who have distinguished themselves by " exceptional leadership and dedication to the fight for the protection and promotion of human rights." He aims to raise awareness of the work of Amnesty International and to honor the life and work of its " Ambassadors" to " inspire the world through their work and their example ."

The award was initiated by the poem From the Republic of Conscience, which the Irish Literature, Seamus Heaney had written especially for the human rights organization. The first winner was a Czech writer and former president Vaclav Havel.

For the selection of the winners Art for Amnesty is responsible, a loose alliance of international artists who work for human rights worldwide. Art for Amnesty also organizes the annual awards ceremony and determines the award presenter.
