Mary Robinson

Mary Robinson ( Irish: Máire Mhic Róibín, born May 21, 1944 in Ballina, Ireland) was the President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Life

Mary Robinson studied law. At 25, she became a professor of constitutional and criminal law at Trinity College, Dublin. From 1969 to 1989 she was Member of the Irish House of Lords. After its election victory in the presidential election of November 7, 1990 Mary Robinson was that the Labour Party belongs from 1990 to 1997, the first State President of the Republic of Ireland. With Mary McAleese followed her again after a woman to hold the post.

1997 Robinson was High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations and held that post until September 2002. Since 2002 she has been Honorary President of Oxfam development.

In 2010 she established the Mary Robinson Foundation - Climate Justice (Mary Robinson Foundation for Climate Justice ) MRFCJ whose chairman is.

In March 2013, it was elected by the UN Security Council Special Envoy for the African Great Lakes region to implement the task of a project funded by the United Nations agreement to end the violence in Central Africa.

Mary Robinson is married and has three children.
