Ameca River

The Río Ameca is a river in western Mexico and about 230 km long. It rises at Bosque de la Primavera, 23 km west of Guadalajara. First, its course leads to the west by the eponymous town of Ameca. On the way to its mouth it forms a few miles the boundary between the two Mexican states of Jalisco and Nayarit. Finally it flows near Puerto Vallarta in the Pacific Ocean. The Ameca is also home to the Ameca toothcarps.

Water pollution

80 % of the waters in the state of Jalisco have a high water pollution. The water pollution of the Rio Ameca has various causes:

  • Untreated water from the settlements Tala, San Martín Hidalgo and Ameca
  • Return of agriculturally used water
  • Wastewater from the sugar refineries of Tala, Teuchitlán and Ameca
  • The tributary of the Rio Mascota, which is affected by chemical substances from mines.

According to a study by the University of Guadalajara is the water of the Presa de la Vega, which feeds partly Rio Ameca, not suitable Due to high salt and sodium content for irrigation.

As part of the river project your room (Rio tu Espacio ) embellished the city of Ameca the shoreline, and make efforts to improve the water quality of the river.
