Amel Larrieux

Amel Larrieux ( born March 8, 1973 in Philadelphia ) is an American pop, hip- hop and rhythm and blues singer and singer- songwriter.

Larrieux grew up in Greenwich Village. Her mother Brenda Dixon Gottschild was a professor and dance critic. She attended the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts ( fellow students were, among others, Christian McBride, members of Boyz II Men, Joey DeFrancesco, Quest Love and Kurt Rosenwinkel ).

In 1991, she met producer Bryan Wilson, with whom she founded the pop / R & B duo Groove Theory. With Tell Me from the debut album Groove Theory ( Epic Records), she had a big hit in 1995. But Larrieux left Groove Theory and pursued a solo career. In 1999 they released their debut single, Get Up. In 2000 she published her solo album Infinite Possibilities with Epic Records. Soon after, she left the label and founded with her husband Laru Larrieux her own label Bliss Life Records. 2004 there appeared her album Brave Bird and 2006 Morning. Followed in 2007 by an album of jazz standards Lovely standards.

In 1996, she sang on the album Sweetback by members of the band Sade Adu ( Sweetback ). In 2002 she took with singer Glenn Lewis Album What 's come over me? on and both sang on the Grammy -nominated album 1.2 to the Bass by Stanley Clarke ( Where is the love).

2010, there was reunion performances by Groove Theory with Bryan Wilson in Japan. 2013 she sang at the Blue Note Jazz Festival.

She is married and has two daughters.
