Amenemope (pharaoh)

Amenemope (also: Amenemipet ) was the fourth Egyptian king (Pharaoh) of the 21st Dynasty ( Third Intermediate Period ) and ruled by 996-985 BC, succeeding his father Psusennes I.

Family

Amenemope mother is the sister wife of Psusennes I., Mutnedjmet. Siamun, the successor of Osochor, possibly his son. This, however, is not clear safely.

Rule

According to Manetho he reigned nine years. Whether he was co-regent in the last two years of his father, is uncertain. Direct successor of Psusennes I was Osochor. A " 49 Regnal year "on a mummy bandage is to not refer to Amenemope but on Psusennes I.. Or, according to another opinion to the High Priest Menkheperre.

In foreign policy, he does not appear. Only mentioned in the Old Testament asylum for the Edomite Hadad Crown Prince is attributed to him.

In Tanis, he is also High Priest of Amun.

His grave

Amenemope is first in a small chamber in the royal cemetery at Tanis buried ( grave IV). Presumably through Siamun Amenemope is reburied in the original for Mutnedjmet chamber provided in the grave Psusennes I.. Pierre Montet found at its opening on 16 April 1940 by the grave goods including a gold mask, two neck collar, two pectorals, bracelets and rings, gold and silver vessels and jewelry chest in the shape of a falcon.
