American Association of Physics Teachers

The American Association of Physics Teachers ( AAPT ) is a U.S. company with physics and didactic targets. According to their official statutes it is used to " disseminate knowledge of physics, particularly through the teaching " ( " dissemination of knowledge of physics, particularly by way of teaching" ). She has over 11,000 members in over 30 countries (2007). The AAPT are the magazines (both peer -reviewed ) "American Journal of Physics " and " The Physics Teacher" out. There are two national conferences a year in winter and summer, as well as conferences of the regional sub- companies. They organize a series of competitions for students (including the U.S. Physics Team for the International Physics Olympiad ) and awards prizes - their highest award is the Oersted Medal.

The Company was incorporated on December 31, 1930 at a specially organized meetings of 45 physicists during the annual joint APS - founded AAAS conferences. The AAPT was one of the founding members of the American Institute of Physics.
