American Capital of Culture

The title of the American Capital of Culture is awarded by the founded in 1997, " Organization of American Capital of Culture " in 1999. Model was the title of European Capital of Culture. So far, only Latin American cities were chosen.

Although the title should actually serve the promotion of local cultural scenes, there is also criticism of the organization that awards him. So rejected the Canadian city Regina in 2005 from a nomination for the title because they felt the associated fees and staffing commitments ( total of approximately U.S. $ 500,000 ) to be too high. The city council went so far as to speak of fraud.
