American-Cassinese Congregation

The American Cassinese Benedictine Congregation is an association of Benedictine monasteries in North America, Asia and South America. The congregation is under the patronage of the Holy Guardian Angel.

History of the Congregation

Mother House of the Congregation and the starting point is the Abbey of St. Vincent, which was founded in 1846 as the first Benedictine monastery in the United States of North America by Boniface Wimmer OSB from the Bavarian Benedictine Metten. The Congregation was founded on August 24, 1855 by Pope Pius IX. built. It now consists of 20 independent monasteries and 8 dependent. The monasteries of the Congregation today consists of more than 800 monks.
