American Yorkshire (pig)

Breeding history

The American Yorkshire pig is the U.S. version of the English Yorkshire pig. In 1830, the first Yorkshire pigs imported into the U.S., especially after Ohio. The low growth performance of the animals kept their numbers low. Only in the late 1940s Yorkshire pigs were imported from Canada and England and crossed. By selecting the meat output increased by leaps and bounds.
