Ammonoosuc River in the White Mountains

The Ammonoosuc River is a left tributary of the Connecticut River in the U.S. state of New Hampshire.

The Ammonoosuc River has its origin in the Lakes of the Clouds on the western slopes of Mount Washington in the White Mountains. The Mount Washington Cog Railway runs along its upper reaches to Bretton Woods. The Ammonoosuc continues to flow in a westerly direction through the Town of Carroll to Bethlehem Junction. He then turns north and flows to Littleton to then flow past with quote southwest of Lisbon and Bath and then joins in Woodsville in the Town of Haverhill in the Connecticut River. Larger tributaries are Little River, Gale River and Wild Ammonoosuc River. The Ammonoosuc River has a length of about 96 km. Its catchment area covers 1011 km ².

Fauna

In the Ammonoosuc River annually, the following fish species are exposed: Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout, brook trout and trout.

Hydropower plants

On Apthorp Dam in Littleton is a hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 0.60 MW.
