AmphiCoach GTS-1

The Amphicoach GTS -1 is the world's first amphibious coach. The bus model is a joint effort of Irisbus Iveco in the mechanical and in the technical field. It was designed by George Smith. 2006, the first prototype was completed and tested in the Marsaxlokk Bay, Malta. After a prototype phase of three years was begun under the direction of Smith with the serial production; a year to be built at a price of £ 280,000 about 12 buses.

Construction

The buoyant buses are equipped with four-wheel drive and 50 seats each. The front is heavily slanted. A flat structure to the chassis to prevent tipping over in the water. The body mainly consists of aluminum to save weight. Further equipment includes life jackets, pyrotechnic seat belts and automatically shut off the engine in case of fire.

Use

Amphibious buses are used in Budapest and Rotterdam for city tours and traveled there waters such as the Danube and the Nieuwe Maas.
