Nature reserve

The Amsoldingersee is a lake in the upper Guerbetal near Thun in the canton of Bern, Switzerland.

The lake has an area of ​​38 hectares and is apart of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz thus, the next larger body of water in the region. It has a maximum length of over a kilometer at its widest point and is about 500 meters wide, but only a maximum of 14 feet deep.

Location

The Amsoldingersee situated at an altitude of 641 meters just a few kilometers west of the city of Thun, where he is nearly 100 feet higher than the city. It is wholly owned by the municipality Amsoldingen. To the west of the foot of the northern slope of the stock horn is located ( 2,190 m). The lake itself is thus located exactly on the edge of the Alps. The only visible tributary is a stream of Uebeschisee, which lies about 500 meters north. The lake is fed by drainage but mainly and underground seepage. In particular, on the west bank, there are still a few minor streams. Outflow is through the choice stream direction Thierachern. This is from Uetendorf to Amletenbach and then flows into the Glütschbach and in Uttigen into the Aare.

Environment

The lake and the lakeside area is a nature reserve and entirely surrounded by trees and reeds. At the east end is the Castle of Amsoldingen, which is privately owned. The lake has two small islands, the first, larger only consists of reeds, while the other is connected by a small bridge to the shore. However, this is not officially accessible, as they are still part of the private castle area.

Use

Because of the nature reserve any driving with boats or fishing is prohibited in the lake. As in neighboring Uebeschisee bathing is prohibited. In addition, there is still a perimeter on the moorland, which represents a further protective character.

Formation

The lake was probably done by the Aaregletscher, which also left behind the moraine hills in Thun West office.
