Anatole Dauman

Anatole Dauman ( born February 7, 1925 in Warsaw, † April 8, 1998 in Paris) was a French film producer, " who helped realize with great risk-taking some poetic masterpieces by Alain Resnais and Robert Bresson ."

Life and work

Dauman, the son of Polish Jews who already came to France at a young age and was active during the Second World War in the resistance movement. In 1949 he founded with six years older Philippe Lifchitz the film production company Argos Films and became its Director-General.

Already with his first major work, Alexandre Astruc's " The Scarlet Curtain ," Dauman drew his production line before: in his output of producer favored artistically ambitious works: in addition to those from the hand of Resnais and Bresson also those of the French Filmavangardisten Jean -Luc Godard and Chris Marker. Dauman but also provided productions of the Japanese Nagisa Oshima ago as well as individual works closely with the French partners cooperating, former " young filmmakers " Volker Schlöndorff and Wim Wenders.
