Anaxagoras (mythology)

Anaxagoras (Greek Ἀναξαγόρας ) In Greek mythology, a king of Argos. He was the son of Argeus and the father of Alektor. According to another tradition, he was the son of Megapenthes.

During the reign of Anaxagoras the women of Argos of Dionysos were transferred into a frenzy. Melampus wanted to heal, but called this a third of the kingdom. Anaxagoras refused. When the women were even wilder, he called Melampus again. This now demanded for his brother Bias third. The king agreed, Melampus cured the women, and so the rule was divided into Anaxagoriden, Melampiden and Biantiden.

After Anaxagoras death, his son Alektor became his successor.
