Andijk

( Listen / i?) Andijk ( West Frisian: Andoik ) is a village and a former independent municipality in the west Friesland region in the Dutch province of North Holland. The municipality is located on the IJsselmeer Andijk. She counted about 6,500 inhabitants ( as of 2010) and has an area of ​​47.70 km ², of which 26.71 km ² water. Since January 1, 2011 Andijk belongs to the municipality of Medemblik.

History

The name comes from Andijk on the dike, dyke, together with Andijk was a part of the city Stede Broec. 1667 a church was built. Andijk located in the historic landscape Westflinge. During the French occupation Andijk was by imperial decree of October 21, 1811 an independent village from 1 January 1812.

Economy

Andijk has a fertile clay soil, agriculture and horticulture are the main sources of income. It is cultivated cauliflower, potatoes are grown and the cultivation and delivery of flower bulbs are important. Even drinking water for the region is obtained in Andijk.

Attempt polder

1926 to 1927 in an attempt Andijk polder was created in the Zuiderzee to test the establishment and cultivation of other Einpolderungen in the IJsselmeer, starting with the Polder in Wieringermeer. Today, the polder is still agricultural in part, but then also used for tourism. It campsites and two marinas were built, in the future the whole polder is to be used for tourism.
