West Friesland (region)

West Friesland is called the northern, in the Early Middle Ages inhabited by Frisians region of the Dutch province of North Holland. The main cities are Hoorn, Enkhuizen, Alkmaar and Schagen.

The name of the upstream in the Wadden Sea West Frisian Islands does not refer to the region of West Friesland, but on the western position within the Frisian Islands.
