Andover is a town in the U.S. state of Kansas in Butler County with 11,791 inhabitants ( 2010). Andover is located in close proximity to Wichita, the largest city in the state.

History

Andover was established in February 1869 under the name Minneha and received on June 7, 1880 its present name. The main event of the next hundred years the town was a train robbery in July 1898.

On April 26, 1991, an F5 tornado destroyed a third of the city. Called the Andover Outbreak tornado is ranked among the 50 worst U.S. history.

Population

The city takes with 11,791 (as of 2010) the rank 31 in the list of the most populous cities in Kansas one.

About 95 % of residents are white, 6.3 % of the population lived in 2000 below the poverty line, the proportion of over -65s here was significantly higher at 11.6%.
