André Gayot

André Gayot ( born October 3, 1929) is a French -born food critic who brings out the " Gayot Guides " in the United States.

Life

To 1972 he formed with his friends Henri Gault and Christian Millau the concept of nouvelle cuisine. In 1981 he started in the U.S. with the publication of a series of guidebooks as " Gayot Guides " where restaurants are rated on a 20 -point scale. His son Alain and his daughter Sophie also work for the guide.

Gayot Guide

The Gayot Guide focuses on the top 40 restaurants. He is seen as an alternative to the Michelin guide, which has been criticized for questionable estimates of restaurants in New York City. Facility, service, ambiance and wine list are commented on any post, but do not affect the overall grade of the restaurant. Every year Gayot published its list of the top 40 restaurants in the U.S., a guide to the nation's best restaurants.
