André Hossein

Aminollah ( André ) Hossein (* 1905 in Samarkand; † August 9, 1983 in Paris) was a Persian- French composer of neo-romantic music and a soloist on the lute TAR.

His mother was Persian, his father was an Azerbaijani merchant, descended from immigrants from the Caucasus to Persia. Aminollah Hossein lived for some years in Persia, he left the country for his studies.

Training

He studied in Russia and Germany, where until 1937 he attended the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart, Württemberg and by 1934, the Academy of Music in Berlin. He was a student of composers and pianists such as Noël Gallon, Artur Schnabel and Alfred Cortot. He also took private lessons with Paul Antoine Vidal at the Paris Conservatory. In Paris he remained for the rest of his life.

Works

In 1935 he wrote his first ballet contrary to the light. He wrote many pieces for the piano, which are named after the Persian subjects, including some etudes. Aminollahs love for his country of origin is evident in many of his works, particularly in the Persepolis Symphony (also known as the dust of the Forgotten Empire), which he completed in 1947. In 1951 he also wrote a symphony about Omar Khayyam poems.

His orchestral works include three piano concertos (No. 1, " Capriccio " (1946 ), No. 2, (1946 ), and No. 3, " Quasi una fantasia" ), two more symphonies, the Symphony of the Sands (1946) and the Arya Symphony (1976 ), as well as the ballets Persian miniatures (1975 ), Scheherazade (1975 ) Dance of the esmaralda (1980) and Holiday on Ice (1982). He also composed film music, mostly for films in which his son Robert Hossein, Paris-born director and actor, was the director.
