André-Jean-François-Marie Brochant de Villiers

André Jean Marie Brochant de Villiers ( born August 6 1772 in Mantes- la -Ville, † May 16, 1840 in Paris) was a French geologist and mineralogist.

Life

He studied at the École polytechnique (but is not been a Polytechnic ) and was subsequently Professor of Geology, General Inspector of Mines and director of the mirror factory in Saint- Gobain. He was made an honorary member of the Académie des sciences in 1816.

He is primarily the géologique Description de la France thanks ( Geological Description of France ), which he wrote with Léonce Élie de Beaumont and Armand Dufrenoy. The work on this, he devoted 20 years of his life.

From his pen also some mineral descriptions such as the gray stibnite (synonymous with stibnite ), for copper Azur (synonymous with azurite ), prase for La (synonymous with prasiolite ) and foliated zeolite (synonymous with Stilbite ) originate.
