Andrea Riccio

Andrea Briosco (* around 1471 in Padua, † 1532 ibid.), also known as Il Riccio, was an Italian sculptor of the Renaissance.

Life

Briosco was born in Padua and was taught by Bartolomeo Bellano. His most famous work is the Paschal candle at the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua, are shown on the biblical and pagan scenes. In the same church there is also the grave monument to Antonio Trombetta ( 1521-24 ). Briosco worked in classical antiquity style and created next to some of the larger works in bronze and many small bronzes and terracotta figures. Another important work is the Brioscos Della -Torre monument in the church of San Fermo Maggiore in Verona with eight bronze reliefs.
