Andrea Vendramin

Andrea Vendramin (* around 1393, † May 6, 1478 in Venice) was 71st Doge of Venice.

Vendramin was one of the richest Venetians of his time. His family had only collected in 1381 in the wake of the War of Chioggia in the state of Nobili. Vendramin held various offices in the service of the Republic, was procurator and Venetian ambassador at the Vatican. He was married to Regina Gradenigo.

The Dogenamt

Vendramin was elected on March 6, 1476 Doge. During his Dogats the peace negotiations with the Turks smashed. The wars with the Turks led to serious disadvantages for the republic.

Tomb

Vendramins tomb was created by Tullio and Antonio Lombardo for Servite. After the destruction of the tomb was reconstructed in the chancel of the church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo.
