Andrei Cherkasov

Andrei Cherkasov Gennadjewitsch (Russian: Андрей Геннадьевич Черкасов; born July 4, 1970 in Ufa ) is a former Russian tennis player who won the bronze medal in men's singles tennis at the 1992 Olympic Games.

Career

Andrei Cherkasov was an outstanding tennis player in his youth. In 1987, he was number 3 in the junior and reached the final of the U.S. Open, he lost to the American David Wheaton with 5:7 and 0:6. The following year he started his professional career. When Challenger tournament in Nyon he reached the semifinals, where he lost to Francisco Clavet. In addition, he was appointed to the Soviet Davis Cup team and used against the Netherlands. Both completed matches against Paul Dogger and Mark Koevermans he could win it.

In 1989 he was at the beginning of the year, the final of the ATP tournament in Sydney to achieve, but was defeated by American Aaron Krickstein in two sets.
