Andrew Boyens

Andrew Boyens ( born September 18, 1983 in Dunedin ) is a New Zealand soccer player.

Career

Club career

Boyens played in New Zealand Dunedin Technical, before he moved to the U.S. to study at the University of New Mexico and at the local college team to play the Lobos. In 2006 he was elected by the NCAA in the College All- Star Team ( First Team All- American).

After the 2006 college season, he played for a short time in New Zealand at Otago United, before he was selected in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC at 10th position in the 1st round. In his first season as a professional, he came to a total of 23 missions, 21 of them in the starting lineup. Shortly after the start of the 2008 season Boyens was mid-April 2008 by Toronto dismissed surprisingly out of his contract.

When league rivals, the New York Red Bulls, he signed in early May after a trial a new contract. The NYRB reached in the season, the championship final, subject to there but Columbus Crew. Boyens could participate only until the quarterfinals during the play-offs; a forearm fracture caused the premature end of the season.

On January 28, 2011, Red Bull announced that it no longer plans with Boyens for the 2011 season. The football franchise had presented him to date a new contract that had not responded to the Boyens.

On 9 February 2011, he switched to the CD Chivas USA.

National

Boyens was first appointed in February 2006 in the New Zealand national team, but came in the three friendlies against Malaysia not used. He made his debut in May, 2007 in a friendly against Wales. In the oceanic qualification for the 2010 World Cup Boyens came to four inserts. By winning the group in the Ozeaniengruppe they won both the OFC Nations Cup in 2008 and qualified for the Confederations Cup 2009.
