Andrew Burnham (priest)

Andrew Burnham ( born March 19, 1948 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom) is a former bishop of the Church of England since 2011 and a priest of the Roman Catholic Church. He was from 2000 to 2010 Bishop of Ebbsfleet in the Province of Canterbury.

Life

Andrew Burnham went to Southwell Minster Grammar School and was a chorister in the cathedral choir. Later he went to Oxford, where he initially at New College Music, then studied theology from 1966 to become a priest later. But faith doubt as to his vocation caused him to be first music teacher and freelance musician and choir director.

With a performance of the Verdi Requiem with local choirs, professional soloists and the Symphony Orchestra of Birmingham city he managed a culmination of his work as a conductor. In the meantime he had become chief conductor and director of several music choirs. After an unsuccessful application for the post of Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral in 1978, he returned to his faith and his vocation and further educated at St. Stephen 's House back in Oxford. There he was ordained on July 3, 1983, the feast of St. Thomas, ordained a deacon and January 1, 1984 as a priest.

Andrew Burnham remained in Nottingham and became in 1987 Vicar of Carrington. On the General Synod of the Church of England 1990-2000 he was elected to the Liturgical Commission for the period 1995-2000. In 1995 he became vice - rector of St. Stephen 's House in Oxford and taught liturgy and mission. In 2000 he was appointed Bishop of Ebbsfleet, on 30 November 2000, the Andre Astag, was consecrated. The Bishop of Ebbsfleet is a suffragan of the Archbishop of Canterbury for communities who oppose the ordination of women. Ebbsfleet is the place where Saint Augustine of Canterbury AD 597 landed on the Isle of Thanet and preached.

Conversion to the Catholic Church

Andrew Burnham converted on 1 January 2011, together with John Broadhurst and Keith Newton, and their wives, of the Church of England to the Roman Catholic Church. On 13 January 2011, he received the diaconate by Alan Stephen Hopes, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster. On 15 January 2011 he was at Westminster Cathedral by the Primate of England and Wales and Archbishop of Westminster Vincent Nichols to Gerard Catholic priest ordained for the Pope Benedict XVI. Founded Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham. On 17 March 2011 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. Honorary Prelate of His Holiness appointed.
