Andrey Razumovsky

Prince ( to 1815 Graf) Andrei Razumovsky Kyrillowitsch or Andreas Razumovsky (Russian: Андрей Кириллович Разумовский, scientific transliteration Andrej Kirillovic Razumovskij; * November 2, 1752 in Gluchov, Ukraine, † September 23, 1836 in Vienna) was a Russian diplomat, patron of music and art collector. He was the son of the last Hetman of the Zaporozhian Cossacks Kirill Razumovsky and Yekaterina Naryshkina, who was a cousin of the Empress Elizabeth of Russia.

Life

He received an excellent education through the Strasbourg Ludwig Heinrich von Nicolay at home. From his father intended for service in the Navy, he served on British ships and took part in the naval battle at Chios against the Turks. Allegedly because of a love affair with Wilhelmina Luisa of Hesse -Darmstadt, later the wife of Tsar Paul, he was sent as an envoy to Naples in exile. Then he found use as an envoy in Copenhagen and Stockholm.

1792-1807 he as ambassador at the court of Vienna, where he played an important diplomatic role in the partition of Poland and the Napoleonic Wars was. He settled permanently in Vienna now down, and was a delegate to the 1814 Russian Congress of Vienna. On 31 December 1814 he built magnificent palace Rasumofsky burned in suburban highway, today the 3rd district, down to the part where important art treasures were lost.

Music Historical importance

1808-1816 maintained Rasumowsky the first professional string quartet with Ignaz Schuppanzigh as leader. There was initially only in private events, and later publicly. After the fire at the Palais Rasumowsky it was dissolved. From it went 1822 Schuppanzigh Quartet forth.

From Razumovsky patronage benefited several important composers with whom he was a personal friend, including Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven in particular. This dedicated to him called Razumovsky Quartets Op 59 No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, also the Symphony No. 5 in C minor op 67 and the Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op 68

In 1862 in Vienna Highway (3rd district) was named the Rasumofskygasse after him; is in this alley his palace and its stables.

Private life

Prince Razumovsky was married to the Countess Constance of Thürheim (1785-1867), the sister of the Countess of Lulu Thürheim.
