Andris Vaņins

Andris Vaņins ( born April 30, 1980 in Ilūkste ) is a Latvian football goalkeeper; he plays for FC Sion and the Latvian national football team.

Career

Vaņins began his career at FK Ventspils, for which he took in the Virsliga first time in 1998. In 2003 he moved to Russian club FK Moscow, but where he did not play. After an intermezzo at FK Venta in Kuldīga he returned in 2006 to Ventspils back. In June 2009 Vaņins signed a three -year contract with FC Sion from the Axpo Super League. In December 2010, he extended his contract with FC Sion until the end of June 2015. During the season 2010/11 he won with the Welsh, the Swiss Cup.

His debut in the national team was Vaņins on 4 February 2000 in a friendly against Slovakia.

Achievements

With the FK Ventspils Vaņins was in the years 2006 to 2008 Latvian football champions. In 2006 he was voted the best goalkeeper of the Virsliga, 2008 and 2013, he was player of the year in Latvia. In the Super League in Switzerland Vanins was named already in his first season at the best goalkeeper and best player of the FC Sion.
