Androscoggin and Kennebec Railroad

The Androscoggin and Kennebec Railroad is a former railroad in Maine (United States). It existed as an independent company from 1845 to 1862.

The Company was incorporated on May 28, 1845, ran a 87.7 km long railway line from Danville Junction to Waterville. In Danville connection to the Atlantic and St. Lawrence Railroad in Waterville was completed in 1853 at the route of the Penobscot and Kennebec Railroad.

The line was built in a track width of 1676 mm (5 feet 6 inches ) as the Atlantic & St. Lawrence had also chosen this gauge. The 42 -kilometer section of Danville Junction to Winthrop went on 3 July 1849 in operation, the remaining distance to Waterville followed on 27 November 1849.

The Androscoggin & Kennebec leased on 30 November 1856, the Penobscot and Kennebec Railroad for 20 years. On October 28, 1862, the two railway companies merged to Maine Central Railroad. The track was in 1871 umgespurt to standard gauge and is now used by Pan Am Railways.
