Andy Scharmin

Andy Scharmin ( born November 29, 1967; † June 7, 1989 at Zanderij ) was a Dutch football player of the FC Twente Enschede. His father was German and his mother of Surinamese origin.

Scharmin grew up in the border community of Haaksbergen, where he played as a teenager when VV Haaksbergen football. Since the season 1987/88 he played as a midfielder and later as a defender in the first team of FC Twente; his debut in the Eredivisie he gave on October 4, 1987 at 3-3 draw with Feyenoord. He was team leader of the Dutch U- 21 team, the Jong Oranje. In the two seasons at FC Twente, he came 52 times in the Eredivisie used.

After the end of the season 1989 Scharmin was appointed to the Kleurrijk Elftal, a selection of players with Surinamese descent. This " colorful team " should contest in June in Paramaribo a friendly tournament, which should support the development of football in the country formerly belonging to the Netherlands. The aircraft, which the team was supposed to land on June 7, 1989 at the Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport, crashed during the landing approach from about two kilometers off the runway. Scharmin and 14 other members of the Kleurrijk Elftal were just as Scharmins mother and his aunt among the 176 casualties of the aircraft accident.
