Aneilema acuminatum flower

Aneilema is a plant genus of the family of Commelina family ( Commelinaceae ). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek words a, an- for without ' and Eilema for, envelope ' and refers to the fact that the inflorescences are not enveloped by showy bracts.

Description

The species of the genus Aneilema are annual and perennial herbaceous plants with tuberous roots and sometimes differently shaped leaves.

The inflorescence consists of individual winding or winding arranged in panicles. Showy bracts are absent. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic. Your three free sepals are the same. The three free petals, however, are often colored equal or different. The upper Kronblattpaar is nailed, white or purple to lavender or yellow to orange. The often inconspicuous lower petals are greatly reduced. They are rarely enlarged. Of the six stamens, rarely, there are five, are the three front fruitful. Occasionally, the middle one of them sterile. The two to three rear are staminodial. The stamens are the same. More common is the average shorter. The stamens are all bald or the side of them are bearded. The anthers of the middle stamens differ in general from the side. Reduced dust bags are usually bilobed. The ovary is three or zweifächrig. Ventral compartments contain a single row to six ovules. The dorsal compartment is not developed or usually contains only one ovule.

The fruits are capsular fruits with usually two flaps. They contain seeds with a linealischem hilum and dorsal Embryotega.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Aneilema is in Africa, spread to the Arabian Peninsula, in tropical America, in Yemen, Madagascar and Australia.

The first description was published by Robert Brown in 1810. The genus Aneilema includes the below listed types.
