Anemone narcissiflora

Anemone narcissiflora

The Daffodil Anemone (Anemone narcissiflora ) is also known by the name of Narcissus Anemone, mountain chicken, Berghähnlein and Berghünlein. The Windflower (Anemone ) are a genus of the family Ranunculaceae ( Ranunculaceae ). This perennial herb occurs on moist and shady mountain meadows. As glacial relict plant it is limited to specific locations, moderately frequent, and therefore protected. Carl Linnaeus described the species for the first in 1753 in his work Species plantarum in volume 1 on page 542 well due to a printing error is at this point but the name Anemone uarcissifolia. But only the word narcissiflora ( narzissenblütig ) has a meaning, as the flowers of the Berghähnleins like Narcissus tazetta in a multifloral umbel are arranged. The word narcissifolia ( narzissenblättrig ) would make no sense, since the leaves of the type no resemblance to those have the daffodils. To correct this error, which has now been passed in different plants as Anemone narcissifolia, it was decided by the International botanist Congress 1999 in St. Louis ( USA), that the name Anemone narcissiflora is now set with this notation ( nomen conservandum ).

Description

The hairy perennial herbaceous plant forms an upright stem with a height of from 20 to 50 cm. The white flowers appear on a stem about three to eight in an umbel. Sometimes the petals are run externally reddish. Below the umbel are three sessile, finger-shaped incised bracts ( as in all anemone species), they are three times to five times divided and arranged lively.

The fruits ( nutlets ) have a protracted style ( in contrast to the Pasque ).

Flowering time is between May and July.

The species is diploid; it has the chromosome number 2n = 14

Occurrence

The plant is often found in the meadows of the Alps, in crevices and rock debris. As a rule, it shall take between 700 to 2,500 meters above sea level to above sea level. There is a pronounced lime-loving plant. The circulation area covers in Europe, the Alps, the Jura, the Vosges and the Sudetes.

Outside Europe, the species is found in Asia and North America.

Subspecies

The species occurs in Europe in the following subspecies:

  • Anemone narcissiflora subsp. biarmiensis ( Juz. ) Jalas; it comes in Europe only in the Urals
  • Anemone narcissiflora subsp. narcissiflora; it is found in Europe, the Caucasus and West Asia
