Angel Martino

Angel Martino ( born April 25, 1967 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama) is a former American swimmer and triple Olympic champion.

At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, she won the relay gold medal in the 4 × 100 m freestyle. In the individual competition over 50 m freestyle she reached the 3rd place. Four years later at the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, she was captain of the U.S. swimming team and won two gold medals with the 4 × 100 m freestyle and 4 × 100 m medley. Also over 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle, she won the bronze medal and 50 m freestyle handed it to fourth place. Her appointment to the Captain has been widely criticized since it was in 1988 closed due to nandrolone abuse. With her age of 29 she was by then the oldest American swimmer who won an Olympic medal.

In addition to her Olympic medals she won four gold medals at Pan American Games and seven gold medals at the Goodwill Games. In the Short Course World Championships in 1993 in Palma de Mallorca, she became world champion in the 100 -meter backstroke.
