Angel of Grief

The tomb Angel of Grief ( Angelo del Dolore / Angel of Grief ) was created in 1894 by the American sculptor and poet William Wetmore Story ( 1819-1895 ) for himself and his wife and is in the Protestant Cemetery in Rome.

Emelyn Story died on 7 January 1895, her husband followed her on 7 October of the same year. Both are buried beneath the tomb. The artwork has been widely copied, both in exactly copied as well as more or less similar poses. The design was also used on several covers of music albums.
