Angelo Mangiarotti

Angelo Mangiarotti ( born February 26, 1921 in Milan, † June 30, 2012 ) was an Italian industrial designer and architect.

By the year 1948, he studied at the Politecnico di Milano. From 1953 to 1954 he was visiting professor of design at the Illinois Institute of Technology ( IIT) in Chicago. In 1955 he returned to Milan, where he had from 1955 to 1960 with Bruno Morassutti an office. He worked as a design consultant for various companies. In 1960, Angelo Mangiarotti in Associazone per il Disegno Industriale and founded his own office.

He designed

  • Stackable shelves (for example, from 1953 to 1955 the " Cavalletto " ) and tables,
  • 1960 Table Clocks Series "Section",
  • For 1966-67 the Artemide lamps " Lesbo " and " Saffo "
  • For the ' Vetreria Vistosi ' 1967 Lamp series " Giogali ", ceiling and suspension lamps of several horizontal metal rings are mounts in the curved glass loops,
  • For Knoll International several glass vases and marble bowls.

As an architect, Mangiarotti designed several buildings in the International Style, which are built with pre-cast concrete components. In Milan he built in 1957 the church Mater Misericordiae 1959-60 and a multi-family house. 1963-64 was Mangiarotti visiting professor at the ' Istituto Superiore di Disegno Industriale ' in Venice and later at many other institutions.
