Angelo Quaglio

Angelo Quaglio the Younger ( born December 13, 1829 in Munich, † January 5, 1890 in Munich) was a German theater scene painter and interior designer.

Life

Quaglio received from his father, the painter Simon Quaglio, and Franz Adam first lessons and went for further training at Carl Gropius to Berlin and Charles -Antoine Cambon in Paris. Since 1850, again in Munich, he was Hofteatermaler and first assistant to his father. 1854/55 undertook Quaglio study trips to Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Dresden and Hanover, and in 1860 director of the decoration being at the court theater in Munich. The designs on the works of Richard Wagner, who considered his wishes, as well as to the private performances of King Ludwig II established the international reputation of his workshop. 1865-80 Quaglio also worked for the theater in Dresden and for the court theaters in Berlin, Stuttgart, Hanover and St. Petersburg. Quaglio created the sets for the world premiere of Richard Wagner's operas Tannhäuser (1845 ), Lohengrin ( 1850) and Tristan and Isolde (1865 ).

His grave is in the old South Cemetery in Munich. He was the father of Eugen Quaglio ( born April 3, 1857 in Munich, † September 25, 1942 in Berlin).
