Simon Quaglio

Simon Quaglio ( born October 23, 1795 in Munich, † March 8, 1878 in Munich) was a German painter and printmaker. He worked as a landscape painter, stage painter, stage designer and lithographer. He came from the family of artists Quaglio.

Life

Quaglio, son of Giuseppe Quaglio, was a pupil of his father and his brother Michael Angelo the Elder (1778-1815) and in 1814 the court theater painter in Munich. In the early years, he worked closely with his father and took over after his death (1828 ) the ultimate direction of the decoration being. Since 1839 related Quaglio first in Germany in addition to painted decorations also built. In 1840 he traveled to Paris to study and was the improvement of stage technology with the three-walled stage closed room. Quaglio created about 100 total designs, including the sets for The Magic Flute (1818 ), Tannhäuser (1855 ) and Lohengrin (1858 ). He was the father of Angelo Quaglio II and Julius Quaglio.
