Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia

ABIM stands for Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia and is translated Islamic Youth Movement of Malaysia.

History

The organization was founded in 1971 during the Islamic revival on the campus of the University of Malaya. The creation was an expression of general dissatisfaction with his early Malaysian government, which consisted mainly of Malays and supposedly the polMalaien for the benefit of non- Malays - had put at risk - especially the Chinese.

The leading role in the foundation took over Anwar Ibrahim, a lecturer in Malay culture. He exercised a truly charismatic influence and was arrested in December 1974 for 22 months, since he had led a demonstration against the poverty of the rural population in Kedah.

For a time, ABIM was regarded as a wing of the young people within the Malay opposition party PAS ( Parti Islam Se - Malaysia). She lost this position but after Anwar Ibrahim was changed shortly before the general election in April 1982 to UMNO ( United Malays National Organization ).
