Ankole

The Kingdom of Ankole, also called Nkole and Nkore, was one of the traditional kingdoms in the area of present-day Uganda.

It was in the southwest of the country east of Lake Edward, and since the reorganization of the country under Idi Amin in the districts of Bushenyi, Ntungamo, Mbarara, Kiruhura, Ibanda and Isingiro (formerly part of Mbarara ) divided. The proper name of the people of Ankole is on Runyankole, a Bantu language, Banyankole.

History

Ankole was in 14-15. Founded century, when osthamitische large ranchers, the Bahima, the superimposed Bantu people of the Bairu ( Hack farmers ) and a grand hierarchy created. Head of Ankole was the king with the title or Omomugabe Mugabe, who collected a team of advisers to be next to his mother and his sister.

In this overlay process, however, took not the inferior Bairu the cultural elements, ways of life and language of the ruling Bahima, but vice versa.

On October 25, 1901, the Kingdom Nkole was incorporated by signing the " Ankole agreement" in the British Protectorate of Uganda. Under Milton Obote, the kingdom was formally dissolved in 1967.

Although the Kingdom, in contrast to other like Buganda has not been rebuilt, in 1993 Omugabe John Patrick Barigye, the son of the last king of the dynasty of Bahinda than Ntare VI. crowned king.
