Anna Diggs Taylor

Anna Diggs Taylor ( born 1932 as Anna Katherine Johnston in Washington, DC) is an American lawyer. Since 1979 she is - as the first African American woman in Michigan - Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. In 1997 she was appointed senior judge of the court, but a year later she resigned in order to reduce their workload, and held the position as Senior Judge.

In the current dispute ACLU v. NSA she told the caused by President George W. Bush interception practice of the NSA illegal. The NSA consulted as part of the Terrorist Surveillance Program even if they are without judicial oversight and arrangement of overseas phone calls and e-mails of U.S. citizens from, suspected of terrorism. Taylor sees this as the rights to privacy and freedom of expression and the separation of powers violated, as prescribed by the U.S. Constitution. Their decision the government wants to bring an action before the competent court of appeal.
