Anna Dresden-Polak

Anna " Ans " Polak (* November 24, 1906 in Amsterdam, † July 23, 1943 in Sobibor extermination camp ) was a Dutch gymnast.

At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 she became Olympic Champion in the all around with the Dutch team. It was the first winning a gold medal Dutch women in the history of the Olympic Games.

She was one of five gymnasts the Gold team in 1928, who were of Jewish descent. In 1943 she was interned in the transit camp Westerbork with her husband Barend Dresden and her six year old daughter Eva. From there, the family was deported to the Sobibor extermination camp, where she was murdered on July 23, 1943 together with her daughter. Her husband died in Auschwitz in 1944.

The other gymnasts of the Gold team in 1928, who were of Jewish descent, were murdered by the Nazis: Helena Nordheim, Estella Agsteribbe, Judikje Simons. Only Elka de Levie survived.
