Elka de Levie

Elka de Levie ( born November 21, 1905 in Amsterdam, † December 29, 1979 ibid ) was a Dutch gymnast.

Elka de Levie was with the Dutch Olympic team Olympic champion in the all around. In the history of the Olympic Games, this was the first winning a gold medal by Dutch women. About half of the Dutch gymnasts at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 were of Jewish descent. Of the five Jewish gymnasts the Gold team in 1928 she survived only as the extermination of European Jews by the Germans. Your teammates Helena Nordheim, Anna Polak and Judikje Simons were murdered in Sobibor, Estella Agsteribbe died in Auschwitz. The coach of the winning team, Gerritt Kleerekoper, Sobibor did not survive.

Elka de Levie died in 1979 in Amsterdam.
