Jud Simons

Judikje Simons ( born August 20, 1904 in The Hague, † March 20, 1943 in Sobibor extermination camp ) was a Dutch gymnast.

Almost half of the Dutch gymnasts team at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam was of Jewish descent. So also Judikje Simons, later Judikje Themans - Simons.

Simons married on May 1, 1935 Bernard Salomon Themans. Both lived in the Central Israëlitisch Weeshuis in Utrecht, where they were employed as foster parents for orphans. By the National Socialists, the couple was deported with their children and the foster children. In March 1943, she was murdered in the extermination camp Sobibor along with her husband, her five year old daughter Sonja and her three year old son Leon.

The other gymnasts of the Gold team in 1928, who were of Jewish descent, were murdered by the Nazis: Helena Nordheim, Anna Polak and Estella Agsteribbe. Only Elka de Levie survived.
