Anna of Hesse

Anna of Hesse ( born October 26, 1529 Kassel, † July 10, 1591 in Meisenheim ) was Princess of Hesse and by marriage Countess Palatine of Zweibrücken.

Life

Anna was a daughter of the Landgrave Philipp I of Hesse (1501-1567) from his marriage to Christine (1505-1549), daughter of Duke George of Saxony.

She married than they were 14 years old on February 24, 1544 the three years his senior, Count Palatine and Duke Wolfgang of Zweibrücken ( 1526-1569 ) with whom she had 13 children. After 25 years of marriage and her husband's early death after only 43 years, led Anna's brother William, together with Ludwig of the Palatinate, the guardianship of the children. Wolfgang had his brother in law used to executor of his will.

Anna donated 1590 the St. Anna cemetery in Heidelberg, in the six years later, she was built in honor of a stone monument. After the closure of the St. Anna cemetery in 1845, the monument was umversetzt on the mountain cemetery.

Anna is buried in the Protestant castle church of Meis home.
