Anne Enright

Anne Enright ( born October 11, 1962 in Dublin) is an Irish writer and literary critic.

After visiting the Lester B. Pearson United World College of the Pacific in Vancouver, Canada Enright studied philosophy at Trinity College, Dublin. Then she went with a scholarship to the University of East Anglia and took creative writing in Angela Carter and Malcolm Bradbury. She was twelve years as a program director, a producer and director for the children's program of Radio Éireann Telefís.

With The Portable Virgin appeared in 1991 her first short stories; they were awarded the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. In 2007, her novel The Gathering with the Booker Prize the most prestigious literary prize for an English-language work; 2008 The Gathering was also awarded the Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award.

Enright lives in Bray, Co. Wicklow, is married to a theater director and director and has two children.
