Anne of Gloucester

Anne of Gloucester, Countess of Northampton 4 (* April 30, 1383, † October 16, 1438 ) was an English nobleman.

Her parents were Thomas of Woodstock, 1st Duke of Gloucester, son of Edward III. Eleanor de Bohun and, prehistory great-granddaughter of Edward I.

She was married 3 times.

In her first marriage she was married to Thomas Stafford, 3rd Earl of Stafford. The marriage remained childless.

In her second marriage, she married her late husband Edmund Stafford, 5th Earl of Stafford 's brother (* March 2, 1378; † July 21, 1403 ). From this marriage 3 children come from:

After the death of her husband, Anne married William Bourchier 1405, Count of Eu ( † 1420 ) and got five more children:

  • Henry ∞ Isabel, the sister of Richard Plantagenet and Edmund of Langley's granddaughter.
  • Eleanor ∞ John Mowbray, 3rd Duke of Norfolk.
  • Thomas Bourchier, he was another Archbishop of Canterbury and Cardinal
  • William
  • John

Her family has thus married into three older lineages of the Plantagenets, as well as in one of the richest families in England. The best known of their descendants is her great-grandson Henry Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham, before and during the reign of Richard III. will play a significant, but very dubious role. Anne and her husbands have created with their marriage a policy in the next generations extremely powerful family.
