Anne Vallayer-Coster

Anne Vallayer, better known as Anne Vallayer - Coster ( born December 21, 1744 Paris, † February 28, 1818 ibid ) was a French painter of the French school.

Madame Anne Vallayer - Coster was one of a small group of professional painters, including Marie- Guillemine Benoist, Élisabeth Vigée- Lebrun, Marguerite Gérard, Angelica Kauffmann, Marie -Gabrielle Capet and Adélaïde Labille - Guiard.

Life and work

Anne Vallayer was the daughter of a Parisian goldsmith and a miniature painter. She was a student of Françoise Basseporte (1701-1780) and Claude Joseph Vernet (1714-1789) - in July 1770 Vallayer studied at the prestigious Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture.

In the following years, she specialized in still life and portraiture. Her patrons included, among others, the Queen Marie- Antoinette, Louis -Gabriel, marquis de Veri - Raionard, the Abbé Terray, the prince de Conti, the banker Beaujon and the comte de Merle.

On April 23, 1781 married in Versailles Parisian lawyer and politician Jean -Pierre Sylvestre Coster.
