Annemarie Jorritsma

Annemarie Jorritsma - Lebbink ( born June 1, 1950 in Hengelo (Gelderland) ) is a Dutch politician (VVD ). From 1994 to 1998 she was Minister of Transport and Waterways, then for four years Minister of Economic Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands.

Life

Lebbink was born as the daughter of a miller. Her political career began in 1973 when she became a member of Volkspartij voor de Vrijheid Democracy. In 1982, she was elected to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament. In 1994, the then Prime Minister Wim Kok called them as Minister of Transport and Waterways in his cabinet. When the formation of the Cabinet after the 1998 parliamentary elections was Jorritsma Minister for Economic Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands.

For her courageous tackling in improving dikes Jorritsma was awarded on October 7, 1997 with the Jacoba van Beieren price.

In August 2003, she was Mayor of Almere, after they had previously occupied as acting mayor in Delfzijl.

In early 2004 she followed J. Verhaegen as Chairman of the Board of Interpay, a Community company of Dutch banks for settlement of electronic payment transactions. It is thus the first not derived from the world of banking supervisory board chairman of this company.

Annemarie Jorritsma is a Dutch Mennonite.
