Annie Saumont

Annie Saumont (* 1927 in Cherbourg, Manche département ) is a French translator and novelist who was, inter alia, awarded the Prix Goncourt de la Nouvelle.

She grew up near Rouen and studied English. Subsequently, she worked as a translator and rendered works of John Fowles, Nadine Gordimer, VS Naipaul and Jerome David Salinger into French. In addition to her work as a translator, they also began to write itself and published 1957-1967 six novels.

Gained fame Annie Saumont V.A. as a novelist. It is one of the few proponents of the genre in French literature and regularly publishes anthologies; in German published individual stories in anthologies and in 2003 the anthology soap from Paris.

Many of her works deal with crime, violence and hopeless or powerless characters who struggle with their human existence. Critics Saumonts compressed and sophisticated style is often highlighted, the same can be many vacancies with its subtlety. Saumont forms in vocabulary and syntax also always different linguistic varieties and after playing with narrative perspectives.
